Sunday, January 17th, 2010

The fashion industry is eagerly awaiting the London Fashion Week this year. Leading fashion designers are gearing up with their unique collection for September 2009. The fashion world is ready to make the show. Fashion retailers are looking forward to London Fashion Week because they know that despite the recession there is a class of people who will continue buying designer clothes. They understand well that refreshing window display is the right strategy to attract customers. So they are longing to discover fresh fashion with one of the world’s best fashion weeks.

The world will witness the London Fashion Week from 18th to 22nd September. The wonderful setting of the Somerset House off the Strand will complement the gorgeous fashion week. The venue remains over crowded with fashion designers as well as general audience from all over the world.

Ahead of the Paris and Milan fashion week and following the New York Fashion Week, the London Fashion Week will witness abundance of designer clothes, flashy jewelries and branded accessories. This biannual event holds a very important position for the fashion industry.

Media and Trade jump at London Fashion Week to enjoy the vibrant fashions on the catwalk and at the same time to find out the latest fashion trend. It is time to discover which trend will adorn the leading fashion showrooms and which one will disappear with just a glance.

London Fashion Week is organized by the British Fashion Council. This premier event is a great opportunity for British designers to showcase their works to a worldwide audience. This fashion event has various financial schemes to support the brightest young talents to promote their designs and come to a deal with the leading fashion houses.

One of the most popular schemes is BFC New Generation. It is sponsored by Top Shop to support the newcomers in the fashion arena exhibiting their collection in London Fashion Week. Another interesting scheme is Estethica which is sponsored by Monsoon. This scheme supports the designers whose collections are based on ecological, organic or ethical principles.

Sponsored by Westfield London, Fashion Forward is also a good scheme. Instead of supporting the young talents this scheme supports the designers who have already made their own place in the fashion world. Many of UK’s top fashion designers have been supported by Fashion Forward.

London Fashion Week showcases the collection of individual fashion designers at specific catwalk shows. If you want to avoid the venues overcrowded by Trade and Press you can attend these specific shows.

London Fashion Week will exhibit the works of nearly 200 fashion and accessory designers. Besides the British designers it is a great opportunity for the international designers to reach the world wide audience. The designer wears exhibited in this fashion week is often seen in various red carpet fashion events as well.

London Fashion Week will be followed by the London Fashion Weekend which is no less popular than the former event. If you wish to get personal with top fashion labels don’t miss this opportunity. Latest designer clothes are available for slimmed down prices in London Fashion Weekend.

London Fashion Week not only offers a glimpse of the upcoming fashion trend but attending this fashion week will be great fun.

New York Fashion Week 2008

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

NEW YORK, NY – The title sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is pulling out all the stops on the runway, backstage and online to ensure another spectacular season at Bryant Park.

On the runway, Mercedes-Benz Presents the Tracy Reese Spring 2008 Collection. Starting with her first collection in 1998, Reese has created a signature style comprised of expressive colors, unique prints and intricate patterns that epitomize “feminine chic.” Celebrated clients drawn to her creations include Vanessa Minnilo, Jessica Simpson, Alicia Keys, Eva Longoria, Beyoncé and many more, and her Spring 2008 Collection, debuting at the Promenade Tent on Friday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m., will be no exception.

Backstage, Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Architectural Digest and superstar designer of interiors, S. Russell Groves, for this season’s Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge. Groves has created a setting that reflects his signature sophisticated style while incorporating materials elemental to Mercedes-Benz: soft leather, crafted wood and chrome. “With an understanding of not only the fashion consumer, but of the individuals who make it all happen,” says the designer, “we have created a lounge that evokes an appropriate sense of exclusivity and glamour.” The combination of vintage pieces with current accessories, a soothing grey color palette and warm fabric selections create an intimate, inviting atmosphere to escape from the hustle and bustle of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

And finally, in grand lobby at Bryant Park, Mercedes-Benz pays homage both to the tents’ “Architectural Landmark” theme of the Spring 2008 Collections as well its own 121- year legacy – both past and present – by showcasing a classic 1957

Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster and its modern-day counterpart, the spectacular 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster. Though half a century stands between these landmark supercars, their commitment to excellence, design, performance and utter exclusivity is the timeless bond they share. As a testament to the value of that which is truly timeless, the 2008 SLR McLaren Roadster retails for $497,750 and its older brother, which retailed for $10,970 in 1957, is valued in excess of $650,000 today.

Professional Men's Fashion Week 09

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

After all conflicts and confusions between FDCI and FDPC, the former has finally announced its first annual Van Heusen India Men’s Week and unveiled the logo of the forthcoming event at a press conference in the capital recently. With this, the FDCI has managed to position India on the global platform and has been ranked as the fourth fashion capital of the World to host an independent Men’s Week. The event which will be a three day fashion gala from September 11-13 will be held at The Grand in the capital which will witness the presence of veteran and upcoming fashion designers and industry connoisseurs under one roof. The fashion week will showcase the best of Indian talent and will feature 15 shows and encompass over 40 exhibitors. The designers will focus on the various range of men’s fashion starting from men’s clothing to accessories.

Highlighting the requirement of an independent platform for men’s fashion, Sunil Sethi, President FDCI said, “Men are active participants and contributors to the growth of fashion today. Menswear dominates a larger per cent of branded apparel sales in the country and the Week aims to give menswear designers a structured momentum and a much needed platform to tap this potential segment of fashion.” Ask him the reason for the logo in all black and white and he says, (in a humorous way), “At least I can assure you that there is no grey in it.” Members present at the occasion include JJ Valaya, Nikhil and Shantanu, Rohit Bal, Varun Bahl, Manoviraj Khosla, Renyu Taandon, Rina Dhaka and Vijay Arora. Among the participating designers, Rina Dhaka is the only women! The first edition of this fashion extravaganza will also provide a unique prospect to promising talent through the ‘Van Heusen Emerging Designer of the Year Contest 2009′ which will be organized in association with FDCI.

The winner will not only be felicitated, but will garner an opportunity to present designs at the Fashion Week itself. This contest, commencing on August 5 will offer an open platform for students and professional fashion designers with an experience of three years or less. The contestants will be judged by a panel of independent jury. Among all, three finalists will be requested to create the line based on the submitted sketches and model measurements provided to them. The final three will exhibit their line at the fashion event. On the basis of the final presentation, the jury will select the winner and will be awarded the Van Heusen Emerging Designer of the Year trophy and an appropriate reward at an award ceremony.

Your future projects I will be in Paris for ‘Whosnext’ early Sept. Mid September is Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. Early October, I will be participating in Tranoi, Paris. End Oct, there’s Wills India fashion Week. I recently started a kid’s wear line to be launched at the MUSE Mumbai. Side by side I am also working on regular collections of home furnishing for Portico New York. Pearls of wisdom for upcoming designers be it any designer, they really need to believe themselves that they always should come up with something unique and incompatible. Certainly training help them a lot to enhance their skill.
